Taking advantage of Chinese nonhuman primates (NHPs) resource, this center aims to establish a first-rate NHP research and education program to fulfill the great promise of NHP as the model organism in modern molecular medicine. Specific research interests include establishment of NHP models of cardiac and vascular diseases; creation of a NHP model of metabolic diseases, including obesity, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes etc.; pathogenesis of NHP cardiovascular and metabolic diseases; preclinical evaluation of novel drugs, cell and gene therapies; and comparative genomic studies for discovery of disease-related genes.

The Nonhuman Primate Research Center has the world standard animal facility and operation mechanism, and is fully accredited by AAALAC International.

Currently, we have built up units of Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, Ultrasonic Imaging, Cell Physiology, Gene Transfer Unit and Pathology Core. These are tightly integrated with other laboratories at the Institute of Molecular Medicine to implement multidisciplinary approaches at levels of molecule, single cell, and up to large animal.

We have established multiple international joint NHP research and training programs with universities, research institutes and large pharmaceutics, and welcome opportunities to collaborate with scientists, research institutions, and pharmaceutical partners worldwide. Young talents with aspiration in translational medicine are encouraged to inquire and apply for our Ph.D. in NHP research.
